Houston, TX - June 20, 2005 - MetaCarta®, Inc., a leading provider of geographic intelligence, announces several enhancements to MetaCarta geOdrive, the geographic text search solution that helps upstream and downstream workers locate unstructured text documents according to their geographic relevance through a map-based interface.
MetaCarta added an energy Geographic Data Module (GDM), which is a collection of place names and coordinates with relevancy values and natural language processing (NLP) algorithms. The energy GDM contains more than two million energy-specific geographic locations throughout the world. When added to geOdrive’s other GDM, the product can access a total of approximately 12 million geographic locations worldwide.
MetaCarta also added support for Active Directory, which is used to authenticate users and present them with only the documents they have permission to view. The system works in tandem with MetaCarta’s Shared Drive Crawler, which allows users to securely index and search documents stored on a company’s Windows shares.
“We’ve increased MetaCarta geOdrive’s crawlers with the goal of tailoring our product to fit customers’ content,” says Mike Odell, MetaCarta’s vice president and general manager, energy. “No matter what locations in the world your content references or where in your company it’s stored, our system is tailored to allow you to aggregate it all in one place to search and index.”
"The industry has long focused on structured data, but its real challenge is efficiently locating relevant unstructured documents that contain geographic references. The problem is that these documents come from a variety of sources, are created in many different text formats and most are not centrally indexed. The amount of unstructured data is growing exponentially each year, and many organizations find this to be one of their most critical organizational challenges,” Odell explains.
MetaCarta’s geographic text search solution bridges text and geography, and connects documents used throughout an enterprise to the maps its workers use everyday.
