Summary

One of the six core functions of the MetaCarta GSRP is "GeoTag" -- a production-level geographic entity resolving function that parses content, extracts geographic references, and resolves the geographic meaning intended by the author. This creates latitude and longitude coordinates and country code tags for places mentioned within documents. 

Just as human readers assess the likelihood that the author intended a particular meaning, the sparately licensable GeoTag function generates a confidence score for every identified location. The confidence score is a number between zero and one that is the probability that the author intended the geographic meaning represented by the coordinates.

There is no faster, more accurate, or more cost-effective capability than what the GeoTag function can offer. Compared to manual categorization, costs are reduced by at least 90% with a massive increase in throughput.  The GeoTag function can process in one hour what 3 humans can process in a year.  GeoTag presents output in 4 formats:

  • For Appliance / Hosted Appliance deployments
    • GeoMarkup (XML), which may be used as metadata and for processing by third-party systems

  • For OnDemand (Developer) integrations
    • JSON
    • KML
    • PNG

For Digital Publishers

The MetaCarta GeoTag function localizes content, drives geo-targeted advertising, and categorizes content for better navigation.  When implemented with a user interface, the GeoTag funciton increases page views, drives users to other relevant content, maximizes advertising rates, enables premium services, and creates the base for GeoWeb Applications such as MetaCarta NewsMap, which helps drive new revenue through premium sponsorships.

  • Retrieves Geographic Information from Content - The GeoTag function identifies the places mentioned in content, in real time, making it easy to leverage the resulting geo-metadata to quickly.

For Public Sector and State & Local Users

The MetaCarta GeoTag function represents an ideal way to integrate geographic information into third-party applications.  The MetaCarta Appliance is fully accredited, and may be deployment on a network in front of, or behind a firewall.

When deployed on an Appliance, the MetaCarta Platform provides strong security at the operating system, document, and user level. The GeoTag function includes the ability to authenticate and authorize users through Active Directory. Using these access controls, system administrators authorize which personnel may see documents and XML results lists.
